Calling All School Advocates: NCASA’s Upcoming Legislative Policy Events

Elizabeth Yelverton | NCASA Legal Affairs and Policy Manager

The NCASA advocacy team is excited to announce two upcoming legislative policy events, which all school-based and central office administrators interested in education policy should find helpful and deserving of their attendance. NCASA is hosting a “Politics and Public Education” event on November 28, 2018 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, to discuss the 2019 political climate resulting from the November 6 elections, as well as the looming issues we expect to face. We will also be asking for additional feedback on our draft legislative priorities at this event, which will provide our affiliates with a great opportunity to make their voices heard in our priorities-setting process, and help us ensure that we are advocating for the issues most important to our members.

NCASA not only talks the talk, but also walks the walk—which is why we are encouraging all members to also attend our “Legislative Visit Day” on March 27, 2019.  This free event will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Room 150 at the Department of Public Instruction, located directly next to the North Carolina General Assembly. The NCASA advocacy team will conduct a legislative briefing, distribute materials on legislative priorities and logistics, as well as schedule comments from House and Senate leaders involved in education policy and funding. That session will conclude by 11:30 a.m., and all participants will be encouraged to disband to conduct meetings with their local legislative delegation, take their lawmakers to lunch, and attend committee meetings and floor sessions where pertinent education legislation will be discussed.

To register for the “Legislative Visit Day,” members may register for the event as an add-on to our 2019 Annual Conference, or as a stand-alone event if members cannot attend the full conference by clicking here. NCASA would like to encourage all school administrators to register for these exciting and informative events, and we are looking forward to working with you to improve public school education for all students and educators.
