Safety App

Just days after a school shooting in Kentucky, legislators discussed school safety during a meeting of the Joint Legislative Emergency Management Oversight Committee. "Too many times we're seeing schools being victimized across our nation, and I don't know of anything that touches the heart of every good citizen than something going down at a school where helpless students are," said Rep. John Faircloth, R-Guilford and chairman of the committee. Since 2013, work has been underway to digitize safety protocols in schools, including an app that would allow emergency personnel to more easily respond to emergency situations. The Governor's Task Force on Safer Schools recommended that the app be accessed via a laptop or cell phone, said John Dorman, assistant director for risk management at the Division of Emergency Management.
